Essential resources to learn about the Hola Accelerator in Latin America
The Hola Accelerator was born with a simple and powerful idea: that the challenges associated with migration can only be transformed if those who live them and those who work on them sit at the same table .
Since 2024, this initiative, driven by Ashoka and IKEA Social Entrepreneurship within the framework of Hello World , has brought together migrant leaders, local governments, businesses, organizations and academics to design collective solutions that strengthen socio-economic inclusion in the region.
Today we are sharing three key resources that summarize the lessons learned and the vision that has guided this process. These are open materials, designed to inspire those seeking to build more collaborative, inclusive, and sustainable ecosystems around migration.
1. Be where things happen
Lessons from a multi-sector ecosystem accelerator on how to build migration systems that work
This essay presents the Hello World team's overall reflection on how to build systems that work—and what it truly means to collaborate to transform them. Through the experience of accelerators in Europe and Latin America, it describes the steps that enabled the transition from individual projects to a shared collaborative infrastructure , where solutions grow through a network rather than in isolation.
Systemic change does not happen on the margins or in laboratories: it happens in the spaces where perspectives, power, and purpose intersect.
2. Social innovation ecosystems in migration: the Hola América experience
This chapter presents Hola América's journey in building a regional social innovation ecosystem. From mapping migrant-led initiatives to co-design processes with local governments, the publication chronicles five years of work promoting collaborative practices, accelerating solutions, and aligning agendas across sectors.
The text highlights how Latin America, despite the challenges of polarization and lack of resources, has been a laboratory and example of policies, narratives and alliances that place migrants as protagonists of change.
3. Report on the first phase of the Hola Accelerator (Latin America)
A year of change in action
March 2024 – February 2025
This document compiles the key lessons learned and findings from the first phase of the Accelerator in Latin America. It reflects the results achieved and the opportunities for the future, through a journey that includes:
- Interviews with more than 40 key players in the migration ecosystem.
- Six virtual sessions with the regional cohort.
- Three meetings of the Multisectoral Support Network.
More than a record, this report seeks to inspire other actors to join the mission of transforming migration into a force for positive change, promoting an ecosystem that values diversity and fosters collaboration.
The projects presented at the Hola América 2025 Festival represent the direct evolution of this initial work: they are the result of phase 2 of the program, dedicated to the development and consolidation of the ideas and prototypes that emerged during the first stage of the Accelerator.
4. ALE Course: Migration and Social Innovation
Rethinking human movement
Developed by the Ashoka Learning Ecosystem (ALE) in partnership with Hello World , this online course offers a fresh perspective on migration as a driver of social change . Through inspiring stories, practical tools, and real-world case studies, it invites participants to rethink human mobility from the transformative potential of people on the move.
What if migration were key to building more resilient, innovative, and inclusive societies?
5. Other resources for further study
